Read for at least 30 minutes every night! -- choose an AR book and remind students to come to school and take an AR test it is two classroom grades one for comprehension and the other for meeting their reading goal.
Skill for reading rimes: Example: -ot, op, ip, up, etc.
Try and have you child read the words in the story that ends with a rime and high-frequency words I. like, the, a, and, do, funny, find, sing.
Reading Strategies: There are six but, we are working with the first three.
1. Look at the Picture to help you figure out the word.
2. Get your mouth ready to make the first sound.
3. Chunk it by looking for the part you know.
4. Read Skip read then go back and reread the sentence.
5. Reread
6. Think about the meaning of the story.
Comprehension Strategies:
1. Activating Prior Knowledge -- Recalling what you already know about a topic. I already know ......
2. Making Connections -- Connecting the text to your own life. It reminds me of .....
3. Inferring -- Using clues in the text to find deeper meaning. The clues help me .....
4. Predicting -- Making an educated guess. I think ......

6. Questioning -- Having a conversations with or about the text. I wonder .....
7. Monitoring and Clarifying -- Thinking about your reading while fixing any mix-ups. I can fix up my mix-ups.
8. Searching and Selecting -- Identifying necessary information in the text. This is important because .....
9. Summarizing -- Restating the meaning of the text. Somebody wanted ..... But ......So then .....
